The Best Medicine

Never apologize for having to disconnect. I think that we sometimes forget, that not so long ago, you could just not answer the phone. You could leave your house for a walk or a drive and just cease to exist for a little while. There was no constant tether to the outside world in your pocket or on your wrist. If you didn't answer the phone people assumed you weren't home or you were busy. The expectation of being on all of the time was not one that was even a consideration. We were allowed to truly rest.

Something that modern technology has done is create an expectation that we are available always. That you react to a text, call, email, dm, what have you, immediately or within a certain set time. This is absolute insanity. I'm not against cell phones, I know mine has saved my ass more than a few times. However, I am against the need to be constantly connected. We are not built for it.

So, do not be afraid to disconnect the phone. Turn it off, put it on silent or in a different room. Just allow yourself to be. It will be okay.

Blessings,

Alyssa
